About us

Hello, my name is Jari van Menxel. My hobbies are reading, bicycling, exploring nature and playing (bass)guitar. I am vegan, an active member of the Party for the Animals, active with Animal Rebellion and a passive member of the Dutch Association for Veganism. Besides that I’m the owner of Van Menxel Solutions, an idealistic software company.

At fourteen years old, I started programming as a hobby to make computer games. Because I found programming fun and interesting, I decided to take the computer science class at my secondary school. Meanwhile I made my first websites, for family or just for fun.

After high school, I wanted to take my hobby further, so I went to study computer science at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. After completing my education, I worked as a developer at a software company for a couple of years. After that, I started working for myself in the summer of 2024.

I’ve always enjoyed making websites. But I also want to apply my ideals in my work. That is why we develop and maintain websites where we pay attention to sustainability, accessibility and privacy.

Feel free to get in touch if you have a question or comment. We’d love to hear from you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a website sustainable?

The internet uses energy. A lot of energy. There are estimates that the internet causes about 4% of the yearly total CO2 emissions. That is about as much as the entire aviation industry!

Although visiting a website does not use much power on its own, it definitely contributes to the overall amount of emissions. Storage, transport and processing of data all cost energy. Which means that if we have less data, we also use less energy.

Our definition of a sustainable website is a website that is small, while still achieving its purpose. Concretely this means that we strive for web pages smaller than 1 MB. Shouldn’t this be easily achievable in most cases?

What makes a website accessible?

Just like we want to make physical environments accessible to as many people as possible, we want to achieve the same for digital environments. Therefore, we consider color contrast for readability, the structure of HTML screen readers and the ability to navigate our websites using only a keyboard.

See our page on accessibility.
